Hi there! Well, I think I semi-sort of achieve the purpose of my speech. To explain, I was prepared for my speech, but I didn’t really quite get it across to my audience, at least I don’t think so. I felt sort of comfortable, but not all that much. I say this because I noticed in the video that I kept on touching my hair and was kind of fidgeting every so often. I felt somewhat confident at first, only because the professor had told us to take 3 deep breaths before beginning our speech, I felt that, that really helped me out, helped everyone out actually. Of course this excersise was going to help, it is also included in the speech Evolving Art book.
If I had to do the persuasive speech over again, I would have to practice a bit more. I did practice enough, so I think, I think that the problem was that I was trying to persuade an audience. I truly think that it is much harder to persuade an audience to do something, than to inform them of something.
Again, what I did that was distracting was the whole thing with my hair. I kept touching it every so often and I know I would have thought that would have been quite distracting if I were the one listening to one speak.
In this speech, what was different was the way I tried to persuade people. In my last speech, I was not trying to persuade anyone to do anything, I was simply informing them. In my final speech, I was trying to get people to do a certain thing. I gave example of athletes and proposed a solution and a visualization to what would happen if athletes were to continue doing what they are doing.
From a scale form 1-10, I would rate my eye contact a 6. I say a 6 because sure, I would look at the audience every now and then, but I would also look at the notecards. In my second speech, however, I know for a fact that I only looked at my speech cards for a little, not as much as I did for my final speech.
On a scale from A-F, I think I would give myself a C for a grade. I say this because, it was not the worst speech ever, but it was also not the best speech ever. A “B” is considered “average”, and a “C” is considered “average.” I believe that my speech was average, it was not a wow speech, but nor was it a whatever speech!
In this speech, I mentioned I believe one source citation. I should have added more, but I couldn’t really find a way to add them into the presentation.
Based on all three speeches, I know for a fact that I did way better on my second speech, the informative speech. I say this because I seemed to have been way more prepared and also because I did not really have to look down at my notecards because I knew much of the material. :)
