The concept that I found most helpful in chapter 5 was the idea of the audience-speaker connection. As stated in the book, successful speakers view audience members as partners in public speaking. The book also states that, "Speakers succeed only to the degree they effectively connect with their audience.." This means that if a speaker does not connect with their audience, then they have really not succeeded at all. When an audience is listening to a speech, they want to know how what the speaker is talking about relates to them. In my opinion, whenever I hear someone speaking about something that I am really interested in hearing, I tend to listen a whole lot better and pay attention tons more. Audience analyses is a pivotal thing when preparing a speech, you want to know what kind of things interest the audience and not bore them. :)
