Discussion Week 4.1 Research Interviews

I have never personally had any experience with conducting research interviews but I
got somewhat close to it, so I think. This one time last year, for my (MUSE)U.S. Music Modern class I had an assignment in which we had to interview an elder or a person over the age of 45. The purpose of the interview was to find out information on what older people thought about the music of their time and to also find out what kind of music was inappropriate and what they think of today's music. I interviewed my dad for this assignment. Before interviewing him, I made a list of questions for my dad to talk about.I recorded him and played it back when it was time to write my paper. The good thing was that my dad was able to answer all of my questions, but one thing that was didn't turn out so was the fact that he did not quite understand what I meant by the questions. I guess my questions were a little too open ended just as discussed in chapter 6. I was not quite prepared to interview him because I did it last minute so I was not able to get as much information as possible.

  1. Hey Mz Jeter
im not sure if i spell that correctly...but we can only grow
    from here now.

Now as a human being, i can take a step forth here and say "i've been there waking up the morning of, when an interview was done, trying to get an interview on the bus, and hey it turned out more than three fourths decent"

but i too have a lot of trouble, well more a habbit of leading the interviewee to where i believe my answers are at. This may not be the case for you, but its somthing going over ch. 6 has helped clear up for me. Now since i dont know you, and cant speak on your behalf

but i can tell you this, ch. 6 gave me the step by step process mentality, now i from reading your blogg rellie cant determine what type of speaker or intervier you man be.

Yet i must ask, does facing the challenge of interviewing a relative make an interview more or less of a daunting task

  2. Hello. Your story sounds like a good start to interviewing. Maybe next time just plan ahead of time and don’t wait until the last minute. I know as humans we have a tendency to procrastinate but in interviewing someone it is especially important to prepare something ahead of time because you never know when the person you want to interview is going to be available. And as I’ve learned many times before, you have to work around an individual’s schedule. Chapter 6 has taught me a lot about interviewing so I hope we both use the strategies, techniques, and points they discuss in any future interviews we might have. Best of luck to you in the future on any interviews you may have just remember that it is not too late to improve or grow.
