Speech Buddies!

Hey there! Throughout the five videos, I learned a little something about having a good effective introduction as well as an effective conclusion. By having an effective introduction, you catch the audience's attention. When one is doing their introduction, they should first of all, start out with an attention getter, whether it be an interesting fact,a question, etc. Secondly, one must tell the audience the purpose of their speech and give a statement that should be maintained throughout the entire speech, in other words, a thesis. Lastly, one must let the audience know their three main points. Evan does a very good job by giving the audience his main-points which was expressed in his powerpoint. In addition, he starts off his speech with a quote who's purpose is to catch the audiences attention. In order to have an effective conclusion, one must review their main-points, in other words, repeat them back to the audience, reinforce the purpose and have a good concluding sentence for closure. Having both an effective introduction and conclusion will more then likely allow one to have an effective speech. :)

  1. Wello hello there!
I don't think people realize how important and effective an introduction and conclusion should be so it's great to hear in the videos how to compose an introduction and conclusion the right way. I agree when you stated "Evan does a very good job by giving the audience his main-points which was expressed in his powerpoint". He used a great attention getter by using a quote. I like that at the end of your blog you said "Having both an effective introduction and conclusion will more likely allow one to have an effective speech :)" because for the readers it reminds us!

  2. Hello Ms. Jeter!

I too learned a lot of the speech buddy videos as well. With the introduction I think the attention getter is the most important part because from that point on that is how the audience will probably view others to see if they're interested in the topic or not. Next to the attention getter the preview of the main points is what makes your speech because the main points is basically what the speech is about. So in the introduction we need to preview those points and also review the points at the end of the speech. I also agree with Kai with the last line from your blog because it is a true statement.

  3. Hi Mz Jetter.
I agree with you that Evan did a great job in his introduction. Also I think that you have a good understanding of the purpose of an introduction which is to: gain audience's attention (attention grabber), include a thesis statement, and summarize the main points of your speech. I think his quote was a good attention grabber because it leaves the audience with something to think about and makes them interested in whatever you have to say next. Like you mentioned, having a strong introduction and conclusion will allow one to have an effective speech; so hopefully you (as well as the rest of the class) will utilize these tools we learned for our speech.
